Colin H. Davidson was born in Donaghadee, Co. Down but now lives in East Belfast. Though mainly a self-taught artist, he did attend a local college for a short time. Serving a four year apprenticeship in Harland & Wolff seems to have had a profound effect on the artist, who has expressed his sincere respect for the men and women who were employed there and the hardships they suffered. This influence can be directly witnessed in his paintings which tend to focus on scenes of ship workers in Belfast. Davidson claims inspiration from modern day impressionist Edward Seago, Trevor Chamberlain and American modernist Edward Hooper.
